Downtown Albuquerque

On May 21st, 2023, a taco stand food truck was feeding downtown patrons when gunfire rang out. Witnesses say they heard a woman say: “You got me fucked up,” shortly before the shooting. It left a female taco truck employee wounded in the chest from the gunshots. The witnesses also said the female shooter left the scene in a sedan.

According to a criminal complaint, Ambrosia Mirabal, 27, of Albuquerque told detectives she drank alcohol and took illegal drugs prior to driving up to the food truck at Central Ave. and 3rd St., N.W. early Sunday, May 21, 2023. Mirabal said she was upset at her “baby daddy” for talking to another woman, and she intended to shoot her handgun towards him to scare him. But the bullet instead struck a woman who operated the food truck.

Mirabal fled the scene in a black sedan, but APD’s extensive network of surveillance cameras Downtown captured the entire shooting incident, the vehicle description, and the license plate all matched up. Witnesses also identified the black sedan with the female driver who fired the gun.

Detectives used the cameras to identify the suspect vehicle and track down the suspect Sunday at a Northeast Heights apartment complex.

Detectives executed a search warrant on Mirabal’s apartment and located a semi-automatic handgun that she stated was the gun used in the shooting.
