Albuquerque -

In a significant victory for public safety, the U.S. Marshals Southwest Investigative Fugitive Team (USMS-SWIFT) apprehended Roderick Alonzo Taylor on Friday, August 4, 2023. Taylor, who faced a felony charge for being in possession of a firearm, was taken into custody by the USMS-SWIFT at an apartment near Wyoming Blvd NE and Marquette Ave.

This arrest marked the culmination of a diligent effort by law enforcement. A State of New Mexico felony warrant was issued for Taylor on February 6, 2023, for the charge of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. USMS-SWIFT took up the case on July 19, 2023, and successfully tracked down Taylor on August 4th.

During the arrest, Taylor was found to have a loaded revolver in his possession, which was promptly seized. Taylor's possession of a firearm was in direct violation of his prohibition due to a 2007 California sex offense conviction. The arrest not only prevents Taylor from potentially causing harm to the community, but it also ensures the safety of law enforcement officers.

Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman praised the efforts of the U.S. Marshals, acknowledging their unwavering commitment to community safety. "I want to thank the US Marshals for getting Mr. Taylor off the streets. They do incredible work every day to try and keep our community safe," Bregman stated.

Following his arrest, Taylor was taken to the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center for processing on state charges. However, the case is far from closed. The United States Attorneys Office will consider federal charges against Taylor for Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.

Sonya K. Chávez, the United States Marshal for the District of New Mexico, highlighted the urgency of the situation. "This case is a prime example of how a charged offender has complete disregard for the law and continues to pose a danger to our city. By illegally possessing a firearm, he not only puts the community at risk, he poses great danger to our law enforcement officers who are sworn to protect our citizens," Chávez emphasized.

In conclusion, the swift and successful apprehension of Roderick Alonzo Taylor by the U.S. Marshals Southwest Investigative Fugitive Team serves as a testament to the dedication of law enforcement in ensuring the safety and well being of the community. The collaborative efforts of various agencies send a clear message that those who defy the law and endanger society will be brought to justice.
