Albuquerque –

On Thursday, January 4, the United States Marshals Service-Southwest

Investigative Fugitive Team was in the area of Central Avenue and Florida St looking for a federal fugitive. At approximately 12:00 PM, task force personnel heard several shots and observed a male, later identified as Dennis Karty, 31, standing over another male, with a firearm. After the shooting the U.S. Marshals were able to render aid to the victim and locate the remaining suspects.

According to a criminal complaint, task force personnel, including a task force officer from the Albuquerque Police Department, quickly converged upon the area. As law enforcement approached the area, Karty fled on foot and entered a residence on Cochiti Rd SE. Another male, Damon Delorenzo, 31, of Albuquerque who was with Karty also fled on foot in another direction.

The criminal complaint states street witnesses were able to identify the shooter as Dennis Karty who was also known as “Mysty” . APD took over the manhunt for Karty and Delorenzo and found them both at a Cochiti Rd SE residence. After several hours, Karty and Delorenzo were taken into custody and booked into the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center.

It was relatively fortunate that our multi-agency task force was in the area,” said Russell Lashley, Acting United States Marshal. “Due to our presence and having an APD TFO with us, we were able to contain the suspect, render first-aid and capture a federal fugitive. This highlights one of the many advantages our task force presents for our communities,” he continued.

While this was occurring, the USMS Task Force also successfully and safely arrested the subject of their original purpose in the area. This man was identified as Randy Urbina who was wanted for a federal probation violation warrant. Urbina was safely located and arrested for his warrant. There was not a booking mug available for Urbina when we posted this story.

Last checked, the shooting victim had non-life threatening wounds to his leg and was taken to UNMH.
