Albuquerque, NM -
In the early hours of November 14, 2023, Albuquerque Fire Rescue swiftly responded to a reported structure fire at the Murphy Express Gas Station on 3751 The American Rd SE. The incident unfolded at 4:25 AM, with Engine 21 (E21) arriving promptly to find a working fire. Thanks to AFR's efficient response, the fire was brought under control within a mere 27 minutes.
While damage was primarily confined to the front facade and entryway, the quick action of the firefighters ensured the safety of both civilians and their fellow responders. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Currently, AFR Fire Investigators are diligently working on-site to ascertain the cause and origin of the fire, though as of now, no definitive cause has been determined.
While on the scene, we observed that although the gas station store was closed due to the fire, the pumps remained open for business.
It should be noted that this is the second gas station fire in the last 12 days. On 11/2/2023, AFR was dispatched to the Valero gas station at 6920 Menaul Blvd NE. When fire crews arrived, they found a significant fire on the south side near the entrance of the gas station's store. We drove by the Valero yesterday and this gas station is still closed.
We have contacted AFR to ask about the progress of the investigation for both the Murphy Express fire and the Valero fire.
Stay tuned for updates as the investigation progresses.
