Downtown Albuquerque -
Around 8AM on July 3rd, 2023, the Albuquerque Police Department was dispatched to the area of Copper Ave and 6th Street NW in regards to a gunshot victim. When officers arrived they found a victim with multiple gunshot wounds still conscious and breathing. Rescue personnel transported the victim to a local hospital.
On scene, we observed clothes and the person's property in the middle of the street while Albuquerque Police Department officers conducted their investigation.
This shooting happened within a 1,000-foot radius around the posted school zones in Downtown Albuquerque. The school zone branding is part of APD and Mayor Keller's office new initiative of prosecuting gun crimes on a federal level. It appeared there were no suspects detained while on scene. The offender was apparently undeterred by the posted school zone signs in the area.
We will update the story if any other information becomes available.
