Albuquerque - APD’s Motor’s Unit responded to a fatal crash involving a vehicle vs pedestrian on Albuquerque’s West Side.
The crash occurred around 10:20 p.m. in the area of Bluewater Rd. and Unser Blvd., N.W. Responding officers located an adult male who was dead in the roadway.
After the investigation it was discovered that a white Ford pickup was traveling northbound on Unser Blvd NW. Another unidentified vehicle was next to the pickup. The vehicles were both approaching Bluewater Rd NW. The light at the intersection was green for through traffic north and south on Unser. The driver of the pickup noticed that the vehicle next to him began to brake. He then suddenly saw a pedestrian, an adult man, run right out into the street into the crosswalk. Due to the driver having the right of way and not expecting a pedestrian to be in the roadway they drove forward and tragically struck the pedestrian. The driver then pulled over to the side and waited for police. The pedestrian was pronounced dead on-scene. The driver of the pickup was not injured.
Based on statements and evidence on scene, the driver did not show signs of intoxication or impairment. Speed does not appear to be a factor in their case. The intersection is lit, but the surrounding area is not. The pedestrian for unknown reasons ran into the roadway against a red light. The driver did not see the individual until they were in front of his vehicle. The pedestrian running into the roadway appears to be the primary factor leading to the crash.
