On August 28th, 2023, Albuquerque Police officers responded to an act of vandalism at a pair of neighboring establishments on Silver St SW. The incident occurred at the Silver Street Market and Frenchie and Co, located at 201 Silver St SW and 205 Silver Ave SW.

According to a criminal complaint, an officer arrived on scene and saw a male with a rock. The male was identified as Matthew Bowles, 38, of Albuquerque. The officer observed Bowles hoisting the rock overhead with both hands, and despite the presence of law enforcement, he brazenly threw the projectile towards the east side of the building. While in custody he told APD officers, “wait until I get out I’m going to do it again.

Following his arrest, investigators found another damaged window at the neighboring establishment, Frenchie and Co. The shattered window bore evidence of the same destructive force that had targeted the Silver Street Market. Each window was subsequently assessed at an estimated cost of $1,500.

Bowles was booked on felony criminal damage to property. He was booked at 4:00AM and released on his own recognizance at 1:30PM by Judge Christine Rodriguez.
