APD's Homicide Unit Investigating Second Homicide in Less than 12 Hours

NW ABQ - According to APD Public Information Officer Chase Jewell, just after 3AM, APD officers were called to the 5200 block of La Bajada Rd NW near Yucca DR N.W. in response to a shooting. When APD officers arrived, they discovered a female with at least one gunshot wound. The individual was transported to a local hospital, but the woman died from her injuries related to the shooting.
APD’s Homicide Unit has been activated and is on scene investigating.
This is the second homicide in approximately 12 hours.
This is the 167th homicide of 2022 for Albuquerque. This is an ongoing investigation and we will update when more information becomes available.
UPDATE from APD on 12/18/2022 @10:45AM: According to APD’s Director of Communications Gilbert Gallegos, APD Homicide detectives are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred at a party on Albuquerque’s West Side.
Reportedly, at 12:49AM, APD Officers responded to a 911 call and a ShotSpotter activation that suggested that gunshots occurred near 5205 La Bajada Rd. NW. A female victim, who was at the party, was taken to the hospital and later, she was declared deceased. It is unknown if APD officers located the female victim at the scene and if she was transported by AFR or Albuquerque Ambulance or if she was taken to the hospital by other partygoers and once she succumbed to her injuries, the hospital contacted police. The media was initially told that “Just after 3AM, APD officers were dispatched to the area of Yucca Dr NW and La Bajada Rd NW to reports of a shooting.”
Homicide detectives are currently on scene conducting interviews and canvassing the neighborhood for additional information. This incident remains an open and active Homicide investigation.
