2 Shot Leaving One Dead in Violent SW ABQ Scene

SW Albuquerque -
On May 12th, 2023, at approximately 9:53 PM, officers in the Southwest Area Command were dispatched to the area of the 1400 block of Dona Arceia St SW. This was in reference to shots being fired.
According to sworn police officer and public information officer Darren DeAguero, when officers arrived, they discovered two individuals clinging to life, who appeared to have gunshot wounds. Both individuals were transported to the hospital where one succumbed to his injuries, the other person is listed in critical condition.
This has been deemed a homicide by APD and this is the 46 homicide for 2023 by ABQ RAW record.
UPDATE:
According to an email sent by civilian APD public information communications director Gilbert Gallegos, APD detectives are investigating Thursday’s double-shooting in the South Valley as a justifiable homicide.
APD officers responded to reports of a shooting Thursday shortly before 10 p.m. at 1443 Dona Arcelia S.W. Two injured males were located in front of the home and transported to the hospital. One individual died as a result of gunshot wounds. He was later identified as 17-year-old Santiago Garcia. The second individual was injured by gunfire, and is currently in stable condition.
Detectives are working to determine whether the surviving male shot Garcia in self-defense. The investigation is on-going.
